More details about our first medical camp
Update, January 22.
Hello everyone! As you know, we had our first day of medical camps yesterday...and it was quite the day.
We arrived at a small college compound about an hour and a half from Love-N-Care. We were warmly greeted by the people there, and then we quickly got to work.
People poured in throughout the day, and we treated close to 1600 people! All manner of folks came in for treatment and hundreds were extremely poor.
Throughout the day we regularly thought of Jesus and the crowds in the gospels, and of his love and care for the needy and broken. Seeing hundreds of broken, desperate and lost people was more than powerful and moving, it was a clear picture of each of us before God. We are the broken and desperate and poor and needy, and our kind and gentle Savior meets us and cares for us. He then chooses to use us in His mission, not because He needs us but because He loves us.
The people were desperate for help, and it seemed at times small riots could have broken out, but Dean and the translators kept the crowd in order. :)
We worked straight through from about 11 AM to 6 PM. We then ate a delicious, traditional meal at the house of the official who had invited us to come. When we finished eating we threw our plates over the wall, and the hungry pigs finished off the leftovers. :-)
In other news, the team was very pleased to learn the Ravens won, the guys still cannot catch the rat who has been sneaking into our room, and a pipe burst in the girls bathroom. Please pray for Jenny, as yesterday she stayed behind due to not feeling well. But she got some good rest yesterday and is planning on joining us today.
Please be in prayer that many are served through the camps and that they function as an inroad for the gospel. Much love to all of our friends and family.
